STS 122: Day Four

The Space Shuttle is in its fourth day of flight.  I understand that as I write this the mission has been extended because of a delay of the planned space walk–delay do to a crew medical issue.  The return of Atlantis will be 1014 19 February Kennedy Space Center–looks like they’ll be returning just when I get off leave.

Yesterday, was a big day for the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station as they linked up to each other.  I was thinking about the Astronauts on board the ISS last night as I went to bed.  How great it must be to have the Shuttle stop in for a visit.  I was thinking about the packages that they probably sent to them in space.  I know how wonderful it is to receive packages when I am in Iraq–with an active Postal Service.  What about the Space Station?  They don’t receive anything unless the Shuttle comes to dock.  I think this is a interesting personal moment for the astronauts that probably goes unseen by the public.
