Over the weekend, my parents came to visit and brought me their turn-table and a stack of records—mainly classical. (They have a wonderful collection of classical records so when they were transitioning away from records to CDs and mp3s I definitely wanted to get a hold of those records.
We set the record player above my home theater system and plugged it into the AUX jack. It began to play—and I turned it up to 20—30—and finally 50. I realized that it was not working well with my system, so later I turned to Google for help.
I found in some random forum somewhere that I needed a “pre-amp” to pick up the magnetic signal from the record player. So, I found one at Musician’sFriend.com for $20! This was the cheapest I found.
This morning, the preamp arrived in the mail.
So after the kids went to bed, I plugged the wires in and then turned on the sound system.
From the speakers I heard the delightful music of “The New Christy Minstrels” . I think I am going to enjoy having a record player around.
