The other day, I was spending the afternoon preparing for my Bible Study. As I do, many times when I write I have something close by to drink. I thought how nice it would be to have a glass of ice with Diet Coke, or Diet Sprite, or even just ice water.
All I needed was an ice tray.
That is my idea of the week, for Stuff Soldiers like. Send your Soldier a couple of ice trays. They are practical, but not necessary at all–so unthought of that I have never seen one out here.
Most Soldiers, particularly if they are on a large FOB, have some sort of access to a freezer. I may be in the Platoon Office, or even the Company Headquarters–mine is in my office because we keep a stocked refridgerator for people to stop by and grab something.
During the Summer months, we offen get boxes of Otter Pops and Freeze Pops–the yhave a tendancy to break in shipment so be carefull with these. But, with ice trays, we add the water and stick them in the freezer.
My wife and I learned that the best ice trays come from Wal-Mart. We had a similar problem in Germany when we discovered that the Army didn’t give us a ice maker in out refrigerator. These Wal-Mart ice trays have diagonal holes for the ice, which makes them easier to open–sounds crazy but they are a great improvement over the old fashioned square holes.
So, there you go–I wrote an entire post about ice trays. Seriously, this is a definately overlooked item, but sure to bring a morale boost to the Soldiers you are supporting as they will have real ice for their drinks.
