Cows On Strike

by Chaplain Andrews on May 29, 2008

My kids have a book that they like for me to read called “Cows that Type”.  In the book, the typing cows ask from Farmer Brown for electric blankets.  When he doesn’t give them blankets the cows go on strike.  The hens join in and they ask for something and they also go on strike.

Farmer Brown says:

“No Milk! No eggs! Cows on Strike, Hens that type! Who has heard of such a thing?”

I thought of that book this morning when I went into the chow hall for breakfast.

I walked into the door and got my plate.  I walked up to the refrigerator and there was a sign that said;

“No Milk Today, Only Soy Milk.”

Now to be perfectly honest, I understand how these things happen and by lunch time the milk had returned.  Milk is not something you want to stockpile and sometimes the trucks get delayed by the conditions outside–weather, enemy activity, and who knows what else.  That is just the way it is on a deployment–they do a great job getting us what we need.

With that said, when I went to the refrigerator and found no milk, my entire day was put in a spin.  I don’t DO change–I’m a Baptist!  I am supossed to get cereal and milk, with my coffee and fruit juice, and eat breakfast.  I do this every morning.

So, I walked around the chow hall–what was I going to eat?  Fried Eggs?  Hashbrowns? Yikes!  Do you know how many calories are in those things?  They sure looked good–but I wouldn’t be if I went down that road.  So, I finally settled on an English Muffin.

With Grape Jelly.

A pat of butter.

And I took my breakfast to my chair and started my day.

Thank you for writing. Your entries are giving me a better appreciation of what you and the other soldiers are enduring for me and mine. Likewise, Monica’s entries and our visit with your family.

Thanks for checking in on my blog. If you missed German Mother’s Day, Thailand, Antwerp, and Costa Rica all celebrate in August. :)
