Air Freshener

Stuff Soldiers Like

I was sitting in a briefing the other day.  The room was a small conference room designed for about twenty.  Because we are an Army of effieciency we managed to pack 30 guys in there.  Everyone of them had been working out in the 115 degree heat for at least two hours prior to get ready for the mission that followed the brief.

Needless-to-say the room stunk.

Their are other times that our facilities stink.  Sometimes when the laundry piles up after a week a sweaty PT.  Sometimes sitting in a stale office because it is too hot to go outside, and when you do you sweat like a pig and then bring that stink with you–then enclose it in a 12X12 room.  Other times air freshener is needed is the winter rainy season when everything gets mildewy.

There are lots of times we need air fresheners–but what type?

Febreze is a favorite because it doesn’t smell strong–there’s nothing that says Soldier like the sweet smell of Gardinia’s.  It also comes in a liquid form and not aeresol can.  Customs doesn’t allow those to leave the country–or maybe it is the post office?  Regardless, I can’t ship it here through drugstore.com for obvious reasons–they don’t do well on planes (the same which shaving gel, by the way).

I overheard somewhere that dryer sheets work well to freshen up a room when you place them in an air conditioner.

What are some other interesting ways to “freshen the air?”  Maybe we could use you ideas here!

oops! sorry if this is a duplicate reply hit somthing and lost the page. My friend swears by vinegar she and her husband are heavy smokers and she put vinegar in a bowl in the room she was in before she goes to bed. In the morning the house smells good. I would not believe they were heavy smokers if I did not know them as well as I do by the smell of their house. It smells nice.

You could try the vinegar the worst that would happen is it would smell like salad dressing or pickles. hehehe.

The other thing might be to light a scented candle or the home fragrance oils you can get at Body Shop, some are quite nice and fresh smelling. Oceanus is a nice fragrance I like from Body Shop. The bottles are very small so they would be easy to pack or mail. I usually fill my oil burner with water and just put a drop of the oil in it gives off a lighter scent that way. Probably not supposed to do that but if the scent is too heavy I end up with a headache.

    Good Luck!

What about baking soda? It works well on carpets….not sure how much carpeting you have over there but that might help with the damp, mildewy smells during the rainy season.

My husband mentioned car freshners when I was talking to him. Jokingly, he said, “You can hang those around your neck.” :)

Hi, I am a school librarian and a bellydancer and my troupe and I would like to send some care packages to you. We particularly have makeup and things for female soldiers but can send some of the things requested on your website. How do we send them to you? I will also include a performance DVD of our last show. I am also a Christian and I can assure you that is family friendly, we have lots of mommy daughter dancers.
